In the Bible there’s a story centered around Bereans, nobles who lived in the City of Berea.
They were deemed noble because they readily searched for scriptures to examine the credibility of preachings. It’s a story that Mount Paran Christian girls’ basketball team has focused on this season, and have attempted to emulate.
Consequently, The Lady Eagles are 21-2 on the season and 13-2 in Region 6A play, which is the best record in program history. Also, the team reached the milestone with just one upperclassmen on the roster.
It didn’t take long before coach Stephanie Dunn recognized her team was special. During summer workouts, the group of girls bought into the system. Like the Bereans, they were thirsty for knowledge and sought ways to better themselves.
“They’re eager to be with the best,” Dunn said. “They’re eager because they’re young, excited and anxious to achieve.”
Although the talent shines, to Dunn, it’s team chemistry that appears brightest. Along with establishing good character, accountability partners and journaling helps push the team to excellence.
