Six teams represented Cobb County in the Georgia Sports Writers Association poll released Wednesday, with three others receiving votes. The one team new to the rankings is Mount Paran Christian, which entered the Class A private-school poll at No. 9, as it prepares to kick off the season Friday at Our Lady of Mercy.

Today, Mitchell, Conner and Parker Rostowsky will pile into one car and drive to Jennings Mill Country Club in Watkinsville to compete in the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament.

The Mount Paran girls, who became the first Cobb County private school to win the team state championship, scored 68 points to hold off North Cobb Christian by six points.

They were deemed noble because they readily searched for scriptures to examine the credibility of preachings. It’s a story that Mount Paran Christian girls’ basketball team has focused on this season, and have attempted to emulate.

Only one other Cobb County high school sports team has accomplished what MPC varsity competition cheer did last weekend. Our athletes competed at the GHSA State finals in Columbus and once again gave an almost perfect technical performance with an extreme degree of difficulty.

The Georgia Volleyball Coaches Association recognizes high school players and coaches for excellence in their sport. Nominations are taken from head coaches via MaxPreps and reviewed by the past and present board committee to determine honorees for this selective honor.

MPCS girls' fall sports have been dominating the competition. Both middle school volleyball teams placed 2nd in the Metro 10 after nearly undefeated seasons. JV volleyball finished their season 21-6 in Area play and placed third out of 20 teams in the multi-state Rally High tournament. The varsity girls volleyball team is currently ranked #1 in the GHSA, AJC, and MaxPreps rankings. After winning back-to-back Area championships, the Lady Eagles are now in the Elite 8 of the State playoffs. Their next match will take place at Holy Innocents this Saturday, tentatively 1:00 p.m. start.
